Description

We believe taste comes first above all else. Our non-alcoholic IPA beer is naturally brewed without fancy alcohol extraction machines. For full flavour we balance NZ Hop bitterness with the backbone of Canterbury malt, and our special yeast produces only a tiny amount of alcohol (<0.5%) while locking in all the flavour. No funny business.
Everyone can have the choice to drink great-tasting beer without alcohol – living life unfiltered, in full colour. We call that State of Play. So crack a can of IPA, enjoy some hoppy goodness, and welcome to the rebellion.

All our beer is naturally brewed without fancy alcohol extraction machines. For full flavour we balance NZ Hop bitterness with the backbone of Canterbury malt, and our special yeast produces only a tiny amount of alcohol (0.3%) while locking in all the flavour.

The best low alcohol beer I have tasted after sampling 20 or do in the past six months. Nothing beats it for flavour and hoppiness and tastes almost as good as full strength Pale Ale. Second on my best low alcohol beer list was the State of Play IPA!

  2. Giuseppe Di Mattina

What an absolute banger of a beer my go to now for any social outing when i need to take along a few.

Great depth of flavour and great that its brewed as a zero alc beer vs having the alcohol removed during the process i feel it just makes it all the better for it.

  3. Sue Warman

I’ve only had the chance to try one can (being all the way over in the UK) but it was delicious. That’s saying something as we have a lot of zero alcohols over here. Looking forward to my trip to New Zealand this year so I can sample some more. Very refreshing and has a real IPA flavour without the bad after effects!

  4. Daniel

A great beer, full of flavour and depth which is very surprising when compared to other non-alcoholic beers I’ve had. Great stuff!

  5. Pat

Really love this zero beer and to be honest you wouldn’t know it was a zero!

  6. Kay (verified owner)

I bought this beer for my husband who was a bit sceptical initially. He was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted so I will definitely be buying more for him going forward.

  7. James Gill

Definitely my favourite 0% beer and it’s not close. Tough to get this much flavour in a 0% and is a testament to a strong brewing process. Love it.

When I was drinking alcohol I thought IPAs were overdoing it with hops. Now I’m off the alcohol it’s back into the hops, big time. I’m leaving just one star open on the review, because I’m still looking for the ideal <0.5% alcohol hopping … it might turn out to be Nectaron. But if State of Play turns out to be the one, I'll be back with the extra star.

    Best low alcohol beer ever!!!

  10. Simon

I always thought that low alcohol beer was the domain of ‘others’ and I would always be a guy that either had a beer or just didn’t .

The first purchase of a State Of Play IPA was a mixture of helping an old workmate with a new project and being inquisitive to see what the fuss was about.

The beer is surprisingly good and most importantly refreshing. Loving the freedom it now gives, I can mow the lawns crack a beer and not crash on the couch at night.

State of Play IPA is a permanent offering in the beer fridge

Keep it going going State of Play

I really enjoy this beer and the others in the State of Play stable. Great taste, hard to tell it’s alcohol free. My only issue is every time I crack a can about a quarter of the can explodes out of it, no matter how carefully I open it, not sure if it’s a fridge temp thing or something else) I don’t have this issue with the other two types of beer. Aside from that, love your work.

Hi Matt let me send you some replacement IPA. Carbonation must be a bit high with the ones you have. What’s your address? Grant.

    • gcstate

Hi Matt I pushed the carbonation to improve the mouth feel. They were right on the limit. All sorted now and thanks for the feedback Send me your address and I’ll send some of the latest batch. Cheers Grant.

    Great Beers. Well done team

  13. Mike Graham (verified owner)

Having tried lots of different alcohol free beers, this by far is the best, the IPA closely followed by the Sunbreaker. Don’t change anything stick with what you’ve got. Really enjoy the taste.

  14. Barry (verified owner)

Tastes like a real beer, hasn’t got that malty back ground taste,be a great beer for kids to practice on

  15. Mike G (verified owner)

This in my opinion is one of the best if not the best zero alcohol beer available.

I’m going to have one too!

  17. Jo

I have always loved a good beer but the Alcohol was not good for my body. Was never fussed on the 0 beers as always tasted as if something was missing.
This IPA is SO full of flavour. I love watering my garden with beer in hand once again. The tiny buzz of alcohol is enough love it. It’s going to improve my summer 🌺

  18. DAVE SPARKS (verified owner)

Initially this was my favourite SOP beer until I tried the Nectaron! This is now my second favourite beer in NZ!

Can’t wait until you can export to the U.K. or France.

Haha love your reviews Dave. We are in the right side of the rebellion!
